About Us David
Brittain is Director of DBLC Ltd, a Chartered Landscape Architect and Member of
the Institute of Quarrying with over 18 years professional experience gained in
industry and within a multi-disciplinary environmental consultancy. After
obtaining a Master of Landscape Design qualification at the University of
Sheffield, David spent 2 years in Japan undertaking research comparing the UK
and Japanese planning systems whilst also working for a landscape design and
planning firm, Kitaba Landscape.
Returning
to the UK in 1999, David worked for 6.5 years at Hanson Aggregates, the last 2.5
of which were as Principal Landscape Architect based in Maidstone, managing the
landscape design and planning function for the South East region. During this
time David gained significant experience in quarry planning, design and
restoration as well as the preparation of Planning Applications and
Environmental Statements, landscape and earthworks contract
design/administration, project management and large scale habitat creation
projects. In addition, David developed expertise in a range of industry standard
computer design and graphic software including AutoCAD, LSS and
CorelDraw/Photo-paint.
In
2005 David joined SLR Consulting Ltd. although he retained strong links with
Hanson, working as a retained external landscape consultant on a rolling
contract as well as being involved with a number of other commercial and
residential development schemes, often as part of a multidisciplinary team of
professionals. During this time David gained useful experience related to the
commercial reality of working as a consultant and acting on behalf of a range of
clients.
In
2008 David saw the opportunity to establish his own landscape consultancy
company and DBLC Ltd. was born. The practice has since developed and retained
close links with a number of large and small mineral operators, waste recycling
companies and planning consultancies.
